News: Ex Veronica Mars Star Secures role on Heroes

News: Heroes

Francis Capra who played Weevil on Veronica Mars is joining the cast of Heroes this fall and has secured a recurring role, TV Guide has reported. Capra will play "a mysterious character who turns out to be evil". The story will have him cross paths with Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia).

The role may reunite him with fellow Veronica Mars cast member Kristen Bell. Who will be returning in her role as the Elle Bishop in the upcoming third season. I'm looking forward to see both of them again on the small screen.

Review: Veronica Mars: Normal Is the Watchword

Season 2 / Episode 1 / "Normal Is the Watchword"
"Welcome back to Veronica Mars and we have a new case."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

Its great to have Veronica Mars back for another season after a break which seemed to take a while to pass. We're thrown back into Veronica's World picking up a few weeks where we left off. This episode falls straight back into what we know and trust. Wallace and other members of are school find themselves failing the school's drug test for no good reason and its Veronica to the rescue.

At times I was a little confused, is Veronica with Logan or Duncan, but later in the episodes things are spelt out for us. Also the bus crash was a shocking turn, it was in the back of my mind that they need a new mystery for us this season and they have delivered big time. Lucky our 09er crew got that limo and that Veronica missed the bus. But poor Meg... Plus who killed Felix?

Normal is the Watchword has a different vibe to the last season, almost a laid back nothing is at stake kinda feel. I look forward to the next instalment.

Summary: Veronica Mars: Season 1

Summary / Veronica Mars / Season 1
"Great characters, fresh well planned creative & mysterious writing have you addicted from the first episode."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

After 22 episodes finally everything fits into place. What strikes me most about Veronica Mars is the writing. Everything is planned, executed and paced so well you don't see anything coming. No episode is standalone everything links together only ever making sense until Rob Thomas wants it to.

We had quite a ride this season: Who killed Lilly Kane? Who raped Veronica Mars? Who is Veronica's biological Father? Plus over 20 other cases along the way. You can't help but connect with the characters. Veronica has this witty strong side that sees her solving cases and helping her father. But she has this softer side aswell, driven to discover who killed her best friend but still finds time for teenage things and boys along the way.

Its great to see a television show targeted towards the teen market which adults can enjoy a like that isn't dealing with tired boring "Dawson's Creek" topics. There is real brains behind Veronica Mars and that is clear every single episode.

What a great season and I hope that Veronica Mars can continue to deliver for season two and if it can its going to be around for a long time to come.

Review: Veronica Mars: Leave It to Beaver

Season 1 / Episode 22 / "Leave It To Beaver"
"I was hoping it would be you."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

The episode that we have been waiting for, finally everything is solved and we know all there is to know about Lilly's murder - case closed. What I love about Veronica Mars is that every episode has been leading up to this. Each and every episode gave us a clue about Lilly's murder. We might not have put them together until now but Rob Thomas has thought everything through and that is what makes this show a standout.

This episode had some powerful moments, Veronica learning that Keith is her real father, Keith rescuing Veronica, saying goodbye to Lilly and of course the biggest question of all Who is at the door? Duncan? Logan?

This episode, no this show is television perfection. I can't wait to see what they have in store for season two. Rest easy Veronica its been a long year.

Review: Veronica Mars: A Trip to the Dentist

Season 1 / Episode 21 / "A Trip to the Dentist"
"Incest its what the cool kids are doing."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

At one stage of this episode I was in complete belief that Veronica & Duncan had committed incest and this would have to be the first time in my knowledge that mainstream television would suggest such a taboo topic. But it also gives clear insight into why Duncan cut all ties to Veronica. Something that we learnt some 20 episodes ago! Again points for excellently writing and forethought.

In true Veronica Mars/Rob Thomas style we witness the story change and twist along the way until we learn the truth that it was indeed Duncan who slept with Veronica that night. Veronica also is thrown in the deep end when a surprise Birthday Party for Logan outs their relationship. Logan proves his commitment and shows the door to long time friend Dick. But its Duncan who takes it the hardest.

Keith discovers a witness which proves Abel was with a call girl at the time of the murder throwing the Kane's case into provable question. We end the episode with Veronica discovering video equipment above the bed in Logan's pool house.

Everything is starting to finish up nicely, you can just feel the build up for next weeks episode!

Review: Veronica Mars: M.A.D.

Season 1 / Episode 20 / "M.A.D."
"Another constant episode, bring on the goods."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

I enjoyed this episode don't get me wrong, but sometimes I just feel like they are dragging things out a little too long. I want to know who killed Lilly. I want to know who raped Veronica. But I only feel like that when I'm not watching Veronica Mars because when its on I'm caught up in the story.

The Kanes are offering $50k to find Duncan, although he purchased a passport on eBay. Keith wants a devoice, Carmen can't remember the night of the "sex tape" (same night Veronica can't remember) & Tad says Logan gave him the GHB.

If I had to guess I would say that they are setting up for the big reveal next episode of Veronica's rape case but we will have to wait and see. This episode was again another constant delivery and what we've come to expect. I'm just waiting for them to blow the roof off but I think we'll have to wait for the season finale for the good stuff.

Review: Veronica Mars: Weapons of Class Destruction

Season 1 / Episode 18 / "Weapons of Class Destruction"
"Another well delivered episode."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

Major: Duncan finds out that Veronica is investigating him and his family - he isn't happy to say the least. Duncan has taken $10,000 cash from his bank account and 'run away'. Also Veronica & Logan discover they may have feelings for each other. Minor: Veronica foils fake bomb attacks on her school with a FBI agent keen to improve his arrest record.

Another great episode with the main story interlinked with this weeks focus story of the treats at Neptune High School. But some interesting developments, it appears that Duncan has done a runner. Perhaps because of Veronica's discovery of his illness. There is also a steamy kiss between Veronica & Logan... what about Leo?

Four episodes remain, we're getting very close to answering the questions we're all been asking...

Review: Veronica Mars: Kanes and Abel's

Season 1 / Episode 17 / "Kanes and Abel's"
"Who did it?"
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

Within the first five minutes of this episode Veronica is able to track down Abel Koontz's Daugher Amelia DeLongpre with Clarence Weidman hot on her trail. Just before the papers proving that Jake Kane paid off Abel, Clarence shows up and destroys the last hope that Veronica has to prove the money trail. Keith also gives Veronica further evidence that the Kane's have been lying with his discovery of a fresh load of washing. Which is a soccer uniform...

Again Veronica picks up the pace as we come closer and closer to the discovery of who murdered Lilly Kane. Things aren't looking good for the Kane family, in particular Duncan. The side story this week almost serves as a distraction from the main case. But Veronica magic has us overlook that.

Its good to see that Veronica & Keith are now joining forces to solve this. Loosing Amelia was a setback but I'm sure Veronica will work around it. Five episodes remain...

Review: Veronica Mars: Hot Dogs

Season 1 / Episode 19 / "Hot Dogs"
"Who's your Daddy?"
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

I had real issues this week with the character of Mandy played by Claire Titelman who I am sure is a great actress. The character just didn't sit right with me, the stupid hair. She's the first character that I've watched in Veronica Mars which just doesn't mesh with the show. I can't put my finger on why, but she distracted me from this weeks story.

Apart from that Keith appears to have his own doubts about Veronica being his daughter and gets a DNA test. Plus we see that Weevil & Lilly were having an affair of sorts. Veronica also ends it with Deputy Leo, which is a shame but really he is a little too old for a seventeen year old girl!

I really feel like we're treading water until all of this can be wrapped up and solved. Come on season finale!!!

Review: Veronica Mars: Betty and Veronica

Season 1 / Episode 16 / "Betty and Veronica"
"Finally some mini-answers."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

This is almost what we've been waiting for. For answers and for them to stop beating around the bush. We're getting a few more details into why Veronica's mother ran and more insights into Lilly's Murder.

In a nutshell: Veronica's father could be either Jake or Keith. Lianne was with Jake at the time of Lilly's Murder & Celeste barged in. Jake & Celeste claimed to be in a hotel at the time but their stories conflict. Clarence Wiedman had bugged Veronica's room and she returns the favour which allows us to discover that Abel Koontz has a daughter.

On a side note I did find this weeks side story of the missing parrot a little on the cheesy side, it almost took the edge of the episode. I couldn't help but feel they were running out of ideas for fresh cases. But that aside things are building up pace for the business end of this season.

Review: Veronica Mars: Ruskie Business

Season 1 / Episode 15 / "Ruskie Business"
"Funky tonight..."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

This week we see two major developments. At the end of the episode Veronica and her mother are reunited with Clarence Wiedman not far behind. We also find that Trina (Logan's half sister) has been using Lynn's credit cards. So it would indeed appear that Lynn is really gone. Veronica also almost gets an innocent man murdered in a case.

Countless twists make Ruskie Business a fun ride and with an ending that we have been longing for you can tell that Rob Thomas is going to start wrapping things up. Something else that is great about this show is that every episode is meets the level of the last. Never a dull moment, never a weak episode.

Veronica Mars has to be the most constantly good show on television. 7 Episodes left...

Review: Veronica Mars: Mars Vs Mars

Season 1 / Episode 14 / "Mars Vs Mars"
"Fresh writing is what makes Veronica Mars stand out from the pack."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

This week we have Mars vs Mars as father and daughter go head to head over a case. We see the lovable Mr. Rooks is accused of having an affair with an 09er student. Veronica is on a mission to prove him innocent and Mr Mars hired to prove him guilty.

As every week the story twists and Veronica is able to see the truth that Mr Rooks has indeed had an affair with a student just not Carrie Bishop. We also discover a video which shows Lynn's death, but there is a report of activity on her credit card. Also Abel Koontz is dying, plus that Duncan has type 4 epilepsy (illness does not exist in real-life).

Fresh writing again is the glue of this episode. I'm really impressed with the continued watch ability of Veronica Mars. Lesser shows would have issues keeping me interesting as really its a formula show. Veronica solves case and we get further information about the larger cases...

We're over half way through the season and I have a feeling that things are going to pick up...

Review: Veronica Mars: Lord of the Bling

Season 1 / Episode 13 / "Lord of the Bling"
"You could skip this episode without really missing anything."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

We really didn't learn anything highly relevant to the major story lines within Veronica Mars this week. It was Yolanda Hamilton that kissed Logan and led to Lilly and Logan's break-up before Lilly's murder. Plus Logan asks Veronica for help in finding his mother, he doesn't believe that she is dead.

In the larger picture this episode could be skipped and doesn't have much re-watch value. But does explain a little back story into why Logan and Lilly broke up. It also demonstrated how harsh 09ers can be when it comes to 'unbecoming behaviour'. Even how Veronica Mars succumbed to it.

For the record this is the first episode of Veronica Mars which I have rated below four stars.

Review: Veronica Mars: Clash of the Tritons

Season 1 / Episode 12 / "Clash of the Tritons"
"The real question is: Can Veronica Mars get any better?"
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

Never a dull moment, this week Veronica is done in for making fake IDs, she discovers a secret club at school. We now understand why Weevil was crying, he and Lilly were secretly seeing each other. Veronica dobbed Logan in for kissing another girl while him and Lilly were on a break. Duncan is having black outs and on meds. Plus it appears that Lynn has committed suicide!

Every week Veronica delivers great, well planned, creatively written television at its best. You don't know where they are going until you arrive. I can't recommend this show enough.

Every episode I watch, I think "That was the best of the season." But its always outdone by the next episode! Perfection!

Review: Veronica Mars: Silence of the Lamb

Season 1 / Episode 11 / "Silence of the Lamb"
"Ever felt like an outsider in your own family?"
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

Wow another topic which I haven't seen tackled in a TV show before, two babies being switched at birth and finding out 16 years later. I thought hard about previous episodes to see if this was hinted at before. Because I know that Rob Thomas likes to sneak clues in, which make sense later. We've only seen Mac once before in the Purity Test episode. Which she didn't mention anything about her family. This really hit home for Veronica (seeing she is unsure about her own birth father) and once we were informed of Veronica's findings its was painfully obvious that Mac is the odd one out in her family.

We also see the introduction of Deputy Leo D'Amato, who through great writing comes across as funny and charming. Veronica does what she needs to do to get closer to solving Lilly's case and of course Leo finds out and this puts an end to this would-be romance.

I'm glad that Veronica can put the big issues out of her mind, like her last boyfriend Troy, or that fact that she has made out with her maybe brother...

As always the episode is extremely well written with nothing being overlooked and we don't discover the identity of the killer until the closing scenes.

There is really nothing not to like about Veronica Mars!

Review: Veronica Mars: An Echolls Family Christmas

Season 1 / Episode 10 / "An Echolls Family Christmas"
"I'm you're biggest fan."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

This week Veronica is faced with who stole the poker money, she has extra incentive to solve this because Weevil has stolen Duncan's laptop which has a journal about Veronica from happier days. But apart from this, there are some major developments, it appears that Celeste Kane sent Veronica's mum those pictures, we also learn that Aaron Echolls has been unfaithful many times and he gets stabbed. What an ending!

Once again great storytelling is at the core of this episode, with a mix of solving the case at hand, and having further clues revealed to help solve the larger mysteries.

If I really had a complaint about Veronica Mars it would be that a few episodes ago we discovered that it was possible that Veronica & Duncan are brother and sister. Also no further information about Veronica's rape.

But really those really don't come to mind when I'm watching the episodes because we're so caught up in the current events to notice. Veronica is of stronger character than me, I would be dying to know the truth about my birth father...

Review: Veronica Mars: Drinking the Cool Aid

Season 1 / Episode 9 / "Drinking the Cool Aid"
"Should I check myself before I wreck myself?"
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

Within the opening four minutes of this episode Veronica is able to track down the soul reason her mother left town - Veronica has got serious skills or what? The episode beyond that is well, in lack of a nicer word... filler.

But this show has a way of making you forget that. Veronica Mars has a way of making you forget the seriousness of that issue, making you focus on the case. Veronica is prepared over look her birth father and love her true father, the one who has brought her up.

Oh and she also looked into a cult this week that really wasn't that evil. Beyond that not much happened in this episode, but Veronica magic made it seem like so much more.

Review: Veronica Mars: Like a Virgin

Season 1 / Episode 8 / "Like a Virgin"
"Wow, are you who you think you are?"
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

The ending of this episode is without question the most in your face of them all. Abel Koontz directly stating that Veronica's father isn't who she thinks it is. That's some powerful stuff, and it really makes sense after we discovered that Leanne Mars & Jake Kane were High School sweet hearts. It also makes further sense that Duncan would call things off seeing that Veronica and him would be brother and sister... yuck!

This episode didn't really have any major clarity until the closing scenes. It would be the first series in my knowledge to claim that two main characters being brother and sister and also to having a romantic relationship.

I can't wait to see how this pans out, wow this is going to be ground breaking television!

Review: Veronica Mars: The Girl Next Door

Season 1 / Episode 7 / "The Girl Next Door"
"Nothing eventful came to pass, but still worth the watch."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

In the overall measurement of the season this episode played little reference to the main themes of the show. But still if I had the option I wouldn't overlook "The Girl Next Door". We still discover that Jake Kane & Leanne Mars were a couple during High School, Weevil has a tattoo of Lilly on his back and there is something more to Duncan breaking up with Veronica.

This episode really didn't contain any huge news to the major mysteries in the show. But still it was interesting to watch the case unfold. We've learnt that there is more to the Duncan and Veronica break up and that Kane's and Mars's have a history.

Again Veronica Mars is a joy to watch, this has to be my favourite show of 2004.

Review: Veronica Mars: Return of the Kane

Season 1 / Episode 6 / "Return of the Kane"
"Vote 1 Veronica Mars."
Click to read review - may contain spoilers

This week Veronica discovers that a major part of the evidence in the Lilly Kane case is in fact false, throwing the whole investigation into question. She also solves the case of the school president ballet, while sadly uncovering the narky-ness of a close friend Wanda Varner.

What I love about this show is that every episode is part of a bigger picture, every detail has been planned everything is painfully thought through. Its clear in every scene, every episode that it all has been painstakingly planned and executed.

It's great television when you can't solve the case before the on-screen hero can. Vote 1 Veronica Mars!
