Once in a while a piece of Television comes along and stands out from the other fuzz which is boardcast over the air waves. Firefly is that television... What sheer brilliance this week. A true excellence piece of storytelling. From three different time lines, past, present and future we watch the story unfold.

We find the crew in fits of laugher and even a surprise birthday cake greets us... that should have been our first clue. Then things go down hill fast with the ship being disabled mid flight. But Mal managers to overcome the odds and even a hijacking and come out on top. We're shown back story on how Mal came to purchase Serenity and meet the other crew members.

I can't speak highly enough of this episode, true creative genius!

Review: Firefly: Jaynestown

Season 1 / Episode 7 / "Jaynestown"
"Drama with a touch of comedy and a hint of heart."

What a laugh! Jayne a mistaken hero on a planet of mud farmers... Even with a folk song its truly funny on so many levels. Humour is a running theme on Firefly, last week with Mal's new found bride and this week with Jayne's new found heroism.

Great writing again is at the core of Jaynestown. We also witnessed the relationship between Simon and Kaylee develop further. But Simon like a true man says the wrong thing at the wrong time... But none the less there is chemistry.

Having Jayne brought back to earth by a young "mudder" sacrificing himself so his hero could live on was a good way of ending the episode. Ensures that he doesn't want to remain on the planet and keeps his ego in check for future episodes aswell. This also marks the middle of the season.

Review: Firefly: Our Mrs. Reynolds

Season 1 / Episode 6 / "Our Mrs. Reynolds"
"Now we're talking!"

Yahoo! Now this is more like it! What an episode, twists, trickery, betrayal we saw it all. When you see the words "Written by Joss Whedon" you know you're in for a treat! Our Mrs. Reynolds was great, a masterpiece with touches of comedy and twists you don't see coming! This is what I needed to confirm that what I have already known Joss is the master.

The episode flowed really well, loved the ending - I really had my hopes up but Mal proves that we don't always see something right in front of us. This episode has to be the highlight of the season so far.
