Sixty Second Review

I really enjoyed the first few episodes of New Amsterdam, the idea was some what fresh and gave the writers had a lot to play with. We all enjoy visiting the past and seeing what was and John's 400 years gives us a lot of opportunities to do that. New Amsterdam started off really strong but fell into a rut mid season. The whole show is resting on the shoulders of one actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who plays the lead character. The supporting cast are left in John Amsterdam's shadow with no outstanding performances.

The show lacks a strong sense of humour, which would really help pull the show together. The show is similar to Joss Whedon's "Angel" in some respects (minus the blood drinking). But at times New Amsterdam takes itself a little too seriously.

The season was cut short due to Fox and the writers strike which was another sore point for New Amsterdam. It crippled the show, not having a full run to capture an audience and left viewers brooding with a lack of closure with a story ending half way through.

Only time will tell if John Amsterdam will be able to continue his quest to find his one true love and gain mortality... If we hear the news either way we will let you know.

Season 1 of Skins was fresh, something different almost a Dawson's Creek on party drugs. They didn't pull any punches and it was an in your face like it or lump it. Season two took a darker turn, we were confronted with Tony's accident and the group having to deal with his new found disability. The writers were put in a position where they had a shocking ending to season one but had to follow through and deal with the aftermath.

My favourite episode this season would have to be Episode 5 dealing with Chris who would have to be my favourite character. We also discovered mid season that the creator had made the decision to replace the cast every two seasons. Giving us fresh faces and new stories. Fans have come together in an attempt to save the current cast members from being axed. But I'm sure that their fate is already sealed.

Overall the season took a different direction from the first. While it is important that shows evolve as their characters do Skins still managed to stay true to its form. Replacing the cast maybe a risky move and I was disappointed in the way that so many things were left open at the end of this season.

We'll see what the future holds for Skins later this year...

With Jericho season one finishing on a cliff-hanger we saw fans rally worldwide seeking closure then it was announced that Jericho wasn't returning. Then unbelievably our prayers were answered and Jericho was renewed.

With the fate of Jake's father quickly dealt with it left the writers questioning... now what? The rest of the season went down hill fast. We had been spoilt with good writing in season one and now we were left with what seemed like writers without a cause.

It wasn't until Episode 6 "Sedition" where we had a twist and the master mind of the attacks was revealed. Four days after the airing of that episode CBS broke the news that Jericho was not being renewed. From what I had seen from these six episodes I wasn't surprised.

The season finale Patriots and Tyrants was the highlight, it was almost enough to make me forget the other six episodes of the season. I greatly enjoyed the first season of Jericho it was enough to make me sit through six episodes of season two which focused on American politics.

Jericho could have gone in so many different directions, maybe if another plot line was followed it would have been renewed. It also seemed like the writers hadn't through beyond the bombs. The first season was had to follow and remains my favourite. But I'm glad that the writers had the grace to finish season two with a bang and some closure.

Right from the get go we knew that Californication was different, that it came to the forefront to offer something different. And we welcomed it with open arms. Californication offered something fresh, raw and extremely exciting. Californication was ground breaking. Crude in a sense yes, but there was so much more under the surface.

This caused a lot of ripples in the religious communities and again I'd like to say: Don't like the content, don't watch the show! Sure there may have been a few naked ladies, but at the core this was a love story. A man trying to get his family back together.

What a ride, from the get go, I was hooked. The show being renewed when it hadn't even finished was an excellent sign. The writers kept it fresh, kept it real. The season was next to flawless, there is really nothing to improve on.

With this in mind I seriously look forward to season two and wonder how things will end for Hank & Karen. If you can handle a little chilli in your hot dog then Californication is a show you shouldn't miss. Until next time...

I can't stress to you enough how amazingly good this show is. From start to finish you never know what to expect from the story. Each episode you are given the story piece by piece and once you think you've got it figured they destroy your jigsaw puzzle. The only fault of Jekyll is that its only six episodes long.

Every part of Jekyll has been thought through and planned. Casting is perfect, James Nesbitt will have you thinking he really does have a split personality. It's been a long time since I've watched a Television show with such punch.

If you enjoy a good story with a dark powerful ulta-ego then Jekyll is for you.

Sinchronicity has to be one of my favourite shows of 2006. Through a great mix of drama, comedy and storytelling we're introduced to the world of three characters and their complicated lives. We can all relate to the idea of how one moment can have a great effect on our lives there after and at its core Nathan shows how one moment changed his life forever.

I enjoyed Sinchronicity from start to finish and in summary its a show that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good story with a few twists and a lot of laughs.

After 22 episodes finally everything fits into place. What strikes me most about Veronica Mars is the writing. Everything is planned, executed and paced so well you don't see anything coming. No episode is standalone everything links together only ever making sense until Rob Thomas wants it to.

We had quite a ride this season: Who killed Lilly Kane? Who raped Veronica Mars? Who is Veronica's biological Father? Plus over 20 other cases along the way. You can't help but connect with the characters. Veronica has this witty strong side that sees her solving cases and helping her father. But she has this softer side aswell, driven to discover who killed her best friend but still finds time for teenage things and boys along the way.

Its great to see a television show targeted towards the teen market which adults can enjoy a like that isn't dealing with tired boring "Dawson's Creek" topics. There is real brains behind Veronica Mars and that is clear every single episode.

What a great season and I hope that Veronica Mars can continue to deliver for season two and if it can its going to be around for a long time to come.
